Description
Offered for sale is abeautiful
antique opalescent glass bowl designed by Northwood. Opalescent versions were made by National or Dugan Glass starting in 1904. The pattern is named NAUTILUS, but is often called ARGONAUT SHELL. The pattern is embossed on the outer surface of the glass; the inner surface is smooth. The bowl itself is clear glass, extending into a white opalescence at the outer edge.
This bowl is rather flat, almost like a tray. It measures 8 inches (20.3cm) in length and 6 1/2 inches (16.5cm) wide at the top. It stands 3 inches (7.6cm) tall to the highest part of the rim. It is shown with a U.S. quarter in the first three pictures, to give an accurate impression of the size at a glance. Picture 4 shows the pattern up close, with a camera flash to show the opalescence. Pictures 5 and 6 are backlit and no flash was used, to better show the pattern and texture. This is a magnificent antique opalescent glass dish for your collection!
Even after ~115 years, this bowl is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks or scratches.
