Description
Originally designed by Buckeye Glass and later marketed by Model Flint this pattern, reverse swirl dates back to 1888. It can be found in numerous shapes and the four standard colors, white, blue, cranberry, Vaseline/uranium, some having a satin finish. One such shape was the spooner, which sometimes would serve as an insert for a pickle castor. This example has opalescent band swirling one direction with the actual mold bands swirling the opposite. It stands 4” tall with the outer diameter of the top measuring 2 11/16”. The outer diameter of the base spans 2 3/4”, this includes the base of the swirling ribs on both sides. The item has no major damage or repairs, I will mention and there’s pictured some tiny chiplets on the inside rim possibly from grinding at production. I also noticed some minor white residue in a couple spots on the inside rim, possibly from use. All in all a great example of Victorian opalescent glass. Please view all pictures as they are considered part of the description. Please check back to my listings often as I will be posting numerous fine examples of glass, pottery and porcelain in the near future.
Thank you.
