    Description

I recently bought this 1972 Mercedes-Benz model 220 gasoline engine powered sedan from a local Montana man. He claimed it belonged to the Led Zeppelin rock group's drummer, John Bonham, many years ago. I have no paperwork to prove that but it is possible due to the 4 reasons listed below:
    1. This car is a European version with the special glass headlamp covers and special color tail lamp lenses
    2. This car has right-hand drive which was and still is used in Great Britain where John Bonham was from
    3. This car has the oval sticker on the back with the letters GB on it indicating that it was in Great Britain at one time
    4. This car has an image of Icarus etched into both of the rear quarter window glasses
Of the 4 reasons listed above, perhaps number 4 is the most significant. A friend who is into Led Zeppelin way more than I am told me that the image of the Greek mythology character Icarus was used on some of the Led Zeppelin's album covers. Please help me confirm or disprove this if you possibly can.
There are times when I try hard to get vehicles back to the original owner's family and this has to be one of those times. I will pay anyone 0 for information positively proving without a doubt that this car was owned by the rock star John Bonham at some time back before he passed away in 1980.
This car is somewhat rough today due to lower body rust issues, minor sun damage to the paint and interior and the fact that some pieces and the radio are missing from the console below the center of the instrument panel. There is no indication that this car was ever any color other than the maroon color it is now.
There were an extra radiator and some lesser cooling system parts in the trunk so I suspect that the engine had somewhat of a cooling system problem at one time. The engine does turn over but I have not attempted to make it run and do not intend to at this time.
There you have it - everything I have found so far that points to John Bonham possibly having owned this car sometime back before he passed away on September 25, 1980. With the help of Led Zeppelin fans around the world, we may determine if this car has a very interesting history or not.
I have plenty of free and fairly secure outdoor storage here in central Montana if you are planning a trip to beautiful Montana sometime in the next year or so. I have a lot of friends who travel throughout the USA and Canada and may be able to arrange safe and economical delivery of this gem depending on where you live and how soon you might want it.
Thanks for any help you may be able to provide regarding the identification of this very intriguing automobile. Bob Woodburn in Bozeman Montana USA
