For sale is our 1990 Mustang LX hatchback.Apologies for any missing spaces between words, the post editor for Ebay is acting up.First and foremost, and in the interest of being open and honest: This is a salvage title and has been a project car with the intent of using it for autocross. There are gaps in body panels, chipped paint, missing trim pieces, and the tires are barely holding on. But you know what? It’s a project car that has potential in the right hands. It starts, makes a beautiful V8 roar, and moves under its own power. Unknown if cruise still works. Bonus: All the glass is intact, and the window motors still work (barely). I have listed the major parts and work that I’ve done and at the bottom is what needs to be done to make the vehicle road safe.
There's over ,000 dollars in parts installed on this car (see below). I think the price is fair (00 for the car, 00 for the 3k worth of parts), so shoot your shot! Not looking for trades, just cash. No personal checks.
I have the title in hand, I just have to switch it over from the CA title to WA. I will take care of all of that.
That being said, here’s what has been REMOVED from the car:
- A/C system (power steering relocated to where AC was)
- Smog system
- Most interior trim
- All carpet
- Spare Wheel
- Rear seats
- Radio (I think I pulled the speakers too).
Now for what has been done to it, starting with the biggest thing:
- This has been converted from automatic to a 5-speed manual. The transmission is a WC-T5 from a 1998 Mustang. Yes, the speedometer drive gear was changed to the appropriate one. The T5 currently has Royal Purple ATF in it.
- The clutch is an Exedy Stage 1 racing clutch
- McCleod racing flywheel
- Short shift kit
Other upgraded parts:
- BBK Equal-length headers
- BBK CAT FREE X-pipe (this means it will NOT pass smog as is and has an EGR bypass installed).
- Mac Performance exhaust (has mufflers, dumps in FRONT of rear axle).
- New 02 sensors
- 70mm Throttle body and spacer (intake ported to match)
- 70mm MAF with fender intake kit
- New spark plugs and wires
- New PCV Filter
- New engine mounts
- Dual air temp gauge (in place of the radio). Measures intake air temp at filter end and at the TB spacer.
- Bosch EV1 fuel injectors (stock flow rate/ size)
- New front and rear shocks
-
Welded -on sub frame connectors w/ seat support brackets
- 4-point engine bay brace
- Rear strut tower brace
- New rear drums and brake hardware (shoes, springs, etc)
- Front brakes upgraded to larger, drilled and slotted rotors with 73mm cobra style (refurb) calipers. (LMR SVE Upgrade kit)
- New brake booster and cobra brake reservoir (with adapter kit from LMR).
- New thermostat
Here’s the other work that has been done:
- Engine disassembled and cleaned. GOOD LORD, THAT TOOK FOREVER.
- The crank, pistons, and timing chain were NOT removed. Connecting rods were examined for any slipping or looseness.
- Cylinder walls inspected for proper wear pattern
- Entire valve train disassembled, cleaned, and re assembled.
- Valves lapped
- New thermostat housing
- New heater core (That was more of a pain than converting auto to manual)
- Plugs installed in smog ports on back of headers
- Re-painted Valve covers and upper intake manifold
- Re assembled with new gaskets
- Headers secured with self-locking Stage 8 bolts
- Totally not-professionally-done hood pins
IN ORDER TO BE ROAD SAFE:
-Needs new tires and wheel balancing
- Brakes need adjusting. I suspect the plunger on the booster needs to be adjusted slightly. The whole system has been bled.
- Lights work, but they are foggy and dim. Definitely needs attention.
