    Description
    1966 Ford Mustang Coupe
The Mustang name, of course, was born with this car, allegedly because aviation enthusiast and Ford Executive Stylist John Najjar Ferzely felt the car resembled a P-51 Mustang airplane. An alternate name-origin story suggests that designer Philip Clark came up with it in reference to the wild horses he saw on a cross-country trip. The horse angle, as opposed to the plane angle, is the one that stuck in the end.
For consignment, the results of a 4 year journey after picking up the car from the previous potential restorer who purchased the car from the original owner. Our consigner has not only finished the job but did a bang up job with plenty of attention to detail, utilizing various expert shops for different steps of the restoration, and now you have a turnkey ready to enjoy, ready to show 1966 Ford Mustang.
    Exterior
Pitstop Restorations in Finksburg, Maryland performed the exterior restoration, and in lieu of cutting out rust sections and welding in new, their theory is to replace any panels completely. This was done to the tune of all 4 fenders, doors, hood, trunk and front and rear valances. Virtually a new car with laser straight panels and well minded gaps that are tighter than when it rolled off the factory floor. Primed and block sanded twice then finished with a near perfect coat of the original Silver Frost. All is also well with the trimmings as in badges, bumpers, grille window surrounds, and light bezels. A nice stripe with dual upper and lower pinstripes is now on just above the rockers. This car just for the wheels was an exercise, changing the lug pattern from 4 to 5 bolts so original wheels could be utilized is just one of the many painstaking processes this car has gone through.
    Interior
Interior restoration included a new headliner which is now perfect and sports a light texture pattern in black. New black carpeting is put in throughout, and the rear bench, which is a pony embossed option, was recovered to match the original front pony option buckets which remained. Up front the dash was stripped and sanded then repainted black with a new dash pad installed. A nice long oval wood appliqu panel is housing the round gauges which are lined up perfectly, and have beautiful near immaculate shiny bezels. New door panels are also in black vinyl and sport pristine handles and cranks. A digital radio which fits nicely into the original radio space is in the center. The steering wheel fronting the dashes is drilled and has a leather wrapping. On the hump is a shiny T handle automatic shift lever. Just an overall showroom correct and beautiful presentation.
    Drivetrain
With the engine pulled, a full on restoration of the entire bay was performed. Meanwhile Ellison's Machine Shop in Glen Burnie, Maryland rebuilt the entire engine, Jim Jennings transmissions from Essex, Maryland rebuilt the transmission, and leaving no stone unturned, Abel Automotive Service in Baltimore, Maryland rebuilt the carburetor. We now have a beautiful blue painted valve cover black block 200ci inline 6 cylinder. It is topped with the original 1-barrel carburetor, and there is a 3-speed automatic C4 transmission on back. The rear axle was replaced to obtain the 5-bolt wheel setup and is now a Ford 8-inch rear axle.
    Undercarriage
Former, (emphasis on FORMER), rust was remediated with a weld in of new floor pans. While he was at it, the front end was completely rebuilt with new parts and bushings with the exception of the original sway bar. A new gas tank and sending unit is on, and the heater core and heater controls are now in and working perfectly. HD leaf springs add to the stance, and new drum brakes are on back with disc braking in front. A walkthrough while this car was up in the air proved very impressive all around.
    Drive-Ability
With an example of this quality we were looking closely for any faults and on the mechanical end the car fired right up and on the test track performed great. Smooth acceleration and shifting, very good braking, and looking good with all functions working during the drive.
Although not totally original, it is a car that can show up to a contest and take prizes with one hand tied behind its back. Miles deep silver paint, all new panels (virtually) and experts all working in their areas of expertise, we give you this beautiful example of the 1966 Mustang.
