    Description

This is a very scarce 127-1/2" wheelbase chassis from a 1933 Packard Model 1001 Standard Eight automobile. A friend here near Bozeman Montana recently bought some property and this chassis was on that property. By measuring the wheelbase and wheel size and looking in the Standard Catalog Of American Cars, I was able to identify this vehicle.
This chassis was made into hay rack a long time ago. Someone fabricated a steel hitch, installed a wood flat bed and then used this to haul loose or baled hay. I removed and scrapped the heavy steel hitch and my friend used the wood deck for fire wood. What is left is a tremendous grouping of very nice original chassis parts or the foundation of a great restoration or street rod.
Due to our relatively dry climate here in semi-arid Montana, most of the parts have only very light surface rust. All 4 of the wheels are in fabulous condition with no rim corrosion or corrosion between the beads. Two of the hubcaps appear to be excellent while two of them have some damage.
The frame some minor rust damage inside the bottom of both side channels just ahead of the center. I have tried to show that damage in the __________ photo of this listing. I think it would clean up fairly well with a sand blaster.
The rear frame cross member was damaged when some idiot hooked onto the center of it with a chain many years ago. The flanges on the center of that cross member are stretched a bit and the flanges are torn at both ends where the cross member attached to the side rails.
Both of the castings on the front of both frame rails that hold the front bumper were damaged and poorly welded a long time ago. I have included a photo of the right casting and the left casting has been damaged and welded in a similar fashion.
All four of the hydraulic shock absorbers are present and appear to be complete. Most of the shock absorber adjusting linkage along the insides of both frame side rails appears to be complete and in good condition.
The U-joint flange on the rear axle pinion shaft turns freely. I will check to see if any of the brake drums are seized up later today. I know that some of them did turn when I was loading this chassis on my trailer.
There are some welds on the top of the front axle and steering tie rod where the hitch hardware was attached. That material will be easy to grind off and I left all of that weld material in place that you can see exactly what was welded.
I will be adding more information to this description as time goes on and people ask questions. I have over 60 detailed photos I can send to you if you send me your direct email address. Please do not ask or expect me to send them to you using the eBay email system. That system reduces the size of the photos and I can only attach 5 photos per email.
I have a pair of 1932 Packard model 903 convertible coupe and sedan projects and a 1932 Packard Twin Six rebuilt engine available elsewhere here on eBay. I may also be listing a 1913 Packard 2-48 chassis and 1913 Packard 3-48 chassis soon here on eBay. Thanks for looking and good luck width your favorite Packard project.
